demurrage (di-m<<schwa>>r-ij). (usu. pl.) Maritime law. 1. Liquidated  damages owed by a

charterer  to  a  shipowner  for  the  charterer’s  failure  to  load  or  unload  cargo  by  the  agreed  time.
