DEEP LINK

deep  link.Intellectual  property.  A  webpage  hyperlink  that,  when  clicked,  opens  a  page  on

another  website  other  than  that  site’s  home  page.  •  Some  plaintiffs  have  argued,  with  mixed

success,  that  bypassing  their  home  pages  in  this  manner  deprives  them  of  advertising  revenue.

Deep-linking  does  not  violate  copyright  if  the  portal  provided  does  not  copy  any  of  the  linked

page’s content. And if there is no confusion about the source of the information, deep-linking does

not constitute unfair competition. [Blacks Law 8th]
